Here on Kauai, there are all kinds of birds. Big birds, small birds, water birds, ground-nesting birds, song birds and more. The list goes on and on. I thought I would start out this new blog with a few photos of these avian wonders that I have taken around the island recently. I have mixed emotions about all of these birds. None of them are native to the Hawaiian Islands. And for the most part, all of them are captive birds. I love the fact that they are so easy to photograph because they are captive, but hate that they are not allowed to fly free and do their bird things.
All of these images were shot over the past month. My wife Marta and I spent a few days recently at a press junket on the south shore. We stayed at the Grand Hyatt Kauai, where three of these shots were taken. It really is a beautiful hotel. They have made a magnificent setting to wander around and relax. All of the plants inside and out are stunning and the views are not to be missed.
The fourth shot was taken at the Smith’s Tropical Paradise in Wailua. I was there shooting a wedding. I took a short break from taking pictures of the happy couple and wandered around the grounds. This bold peacock just sauntered past without a care in the world. It had no fear of me what so ever. It decided it wanted to be on the other side of the road and walked right up to me, posed for a minute, then continued on his merry way. Such a crazy bird!

lol, Thanks. Glad you like these bird shots! They were fun to shoot and all, though they aren’t the WOW photos for a portfolio or anything. Nice for the blog though.
Thanks Thor! It’s getting there. I still have more to do and more content to add. But at least it’s up and running now. Not too bad for a one week I suppose. lol
Now I just need to write a bunch of CSS code, create some more graphics, prep and post a bunch more images… on and on and on…
